Pre-Purchase Survey

To make an informed decision before committing to buying a boat, a pre-purchase survey is a must-have.

With my extensive background experience and knowledge of boats, I offer pre-purchase boat surveys which include detailed reports on hull thickness and overall structure, as well as finer details and a well-rounded assessment of the condition of the boat.

I want you to have peace of mind that you are investing your money, time and boating ambitions into a sound vessel.

What to expect from a pre-purchase boat survey.

A pre-purchase boat survey usually takes a full day and is a complete examination of a boat, including hull, cabin, engine, and equipment onboard, which is then condensed into a report.

Surveys for sea boats and surveys for FRP or inland vessels differ in the details, but ultimately a pre-purchase boat survey will summarise the main issues before delving into the finer points.

As part of the survey, I will provide recommendations on the best course of action to take by explaining what the issue is, why it matters and how it can be fixed - prioritising issues which need to be fixed quickly, and advising on others which it may be possible to address in the future.

I am based in the south west and cover much of the south of England. If you are looking at buying a narrowboat on the Kennet and Avon, the Thames or further afield, reach out to find out how I can help. For sea vessels on the South coast - whether you need a survey in Bournemouth, Southampton or Plymouth - let's chat about your sea vessel survey requirements.

Insurance & damage report

An insurance and damage report is used for assessing the condition of a vessel for insurance coverage purposes, after an accident or to assess substantial work.

I conduct a thorough inspection of the boat and provide a detailed report that can be submitted to insurers or used to help resolve claims after damage has occured, making sure you are fully informed and properly covered.

Is an insurance and damage report right for me?

An insurance and damage report survey is crucial for work on any boat - FRP, GRP, sailing boats, yachts, narrowboats and inland craft - which need to be assessed for insurance or damage repair purposes.

Insurance and damage reports are invaluable when updating insurance policies, committing to serious work on your vessel, or after an accident when another party could be liable. Insurance and damage surveys ensure your boat meets insurance requirements, identifies any existing damage and lays out work which needs to be done in priority order.

By going into the situation with a comprehensive and facts-based assessment of your boat, you are in a stronger position to save money and make sure all work is correctly carried out - very important when your liveaboard sailing boat or passion project narrowboat needs work or repairs carried out.

As an outside pair of eyes, I will assess the current state of the vessel and provide you with an in-depth written report which you can share with insurers and the engineers who will be working on your boat to help you get the most out of any works or repairs.
